BMW 3 series E36 M44 Camshaft sensor replacement DIY guide.
This guide will show you how to replace your camshaft sensor on a BMW Z3 with the M44 engine(DOHC 1.9L 16 VALVE)
Location of camshaft sensor
Remove the inlet rubber pipe. (Flatblade screwdriver/6mm socket and ratchet)
Remove the throttle potentiometer plug, idle regulating valve plug and the 2 vacuum pipes.
Slacken off the 2 x 11mm inlet manifold plenum chamber support bolts.
Remove the 3 x 11mm nuts/bolts that retain the inlet manifold plenum chamber.
Lift the inlet manifold plenum chamber up(it may need a good tug) and then gently fold it back out of the way.
Now you can easily get to the camshaft sensor plug, to disconnect it push the wire clip in and pull the plug out.
Undo the 5mm Allen headed bolt and remove the sensor from the engine
If yours is still fitted then you will need to remove your cable guide, undo the 10mm headed bolt
Now replace your sensor and bolt everything back up.
