I am new to the Forum and hope I can get some advice.
My 1 series E87 - 2008 Model has started blowing white bits out of the air conditioning. I have only owned the car a year and have been researching what the potential issue could be.
Reading on forums, this is a design fault with the air con evaporator corroding and spraying out dust particles. This seems to be a particular issue for the year and model with BMW quoting £2k to fix the issue.
I have sent BMW an email to tell them of the issue and that this is a known fault and that I want them to resolve this issue at their cost. They have come back to say that I need to take the car into BMW for an inspection to be carried out on the car (How much is they likely to try and charge me?) They have said that they can submit a goodwill claim to BMW for the cost of the repair but that the claim is reviewed based on vehicle age, milage, service history and whether a warranty policy is on the car.
The car is 2008, 57 plate, just hit 50k on the speedo, full service history from start but not all at BMW and there isn't a warranty policy on the car. What is the likelihood of getting BMW to cover the full cost to repair the design fault?
Is there anywhere I can get evidence or reports of what these white bits are ie are they hazardous in order to support my claim to them?
Any help appreciated on this issue
