The n/s driveshaft (half shaft) was seized in the drive flange on my 325tds. After hours of struggling I finally gave up, binned the trailing arm and fitted a replacement. I planned to source the new half shaft from my spares car but, no matter how I try, both shafts (n/s & o/s) are stuck on that car too. With the original, not even a 20 tonne press would shift it and trailing arms are not the easiest thing to position in a press. I've tried heat without success - the heat is not really getting to where its needed.
I really need to get the thing out of my workshop in the morning as I have an urgent job to do and only one day to do it in. If I could get hold of a second hand shaft today I would but that's doubtful.
These shafts are well and truly stuck Has anyone had this problem and overcome it?
Remember, I've banged and brayed, I've used heat and using a press is difficult. The only other thing I can think of is to try a puller on the drive flange and see if it will come off that way. That would almost certainly wreck the wheel bearing but that's not a problem. The thing that bothers me about using that mehtod is that there's a danger of wrecking the puller because of the pressure likely to be needed.
I doubt there is an easy answer to this but if someone knows how, I'm listening.
