Pressures: The plate on my E46 driver's door disappeared on the last visit to the bodyshop but while it was still there it said 2.3 bar front and 2.7 rear, increased to 2.8 front and 3.3 rear for 5 persons. I persuaded myself to put 2.7 in the rear but never had the courage to go to 3.3 = 48 psi when fully loaded. All along I had the feeling that such high rear pressures were at least partly responsible for the well known kamikaze rear end road holding in snow and ice.
Many attempts at getting official confirmation from BMW came up against a brick wall, surprisingly. Someone advised me unofficially to reduce to 2.0 front and 2.2 rear which I have been using since then with apparently no ill effects. What is the Forum's view - mine is the 320 D Touring estate 2002?
Similarly is there a view on the least worst brand / model of summer tyres to use (all year round) for those for whom investment in winter tyres would not normally be justified - in spite of the official BMW mantra.
