Hi all, I need a little technical advice with my '98 318is. It's becoming increasingly hard to start. It used to fire up straight away, but over the last month that's changed.
The only way to start it is to turn the key (obviously), and pump the accelerator whilst doing so. It can take anywhere between 5 & 10 seconds to start, otherwise you have to turn it off and try again, although it will then fire up the second time. (I have never not been able to start it, but it is gradually getting worse).
Once started you have to manually hold the rev's at 1000rpm as it doesn't idle and just cuts out. After about 20-30 seconds you can drive as normal, and it eventually idles smoothly after a couple of minutes of running.
Once running it drives perfectly, but if you park it up and come back to it 10 minutes later it's still tricky to start (although not as bad as when the engine cold).
What would be likely to cause this?
Could the ICV need a clean, or if it more likely a fueling problem? I'm not too fimilar with bimmer's, so any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance
