I havea problem with my 2002 E46 N42. Car starts and warms up fine. Get to Temp and this strange tick over occurs. Normally idles at 700 RPM then rises to 1800 then drops to 700 and repeat again and again. If checked all of the air intake up to the butterfly valve for splits - none. Cleaned the MAF - no difference. The padded vent pipe across the top of the inlet manifold has a little oil in it. Ive changed the oil filler cap for a new one - no difference. I get a little white smoke now and again. I also get a burning oil smell in the cabin occasionally. Oil leaks from the front of the engine. The two electrical connectors that fit into connectors set just below where the can shafts would be, the lower one is leaking oil.
I had the V belt break on me a couple of weeks ago. I managed to stop the engine before serious damage done, although it did go into the red zone where the red light came on. The problem has occurred ever since then. Coincidence? I don't know. I need help
I asked the local BMW dealer about maybe the CCV needed changing but they said they had never heard of this being a problem, yet the forums seem full of CCV problems on this engine. Any help would be much appreciated. No codes showing on diag.
