Thought I'd share this with you..
About 4000 miles into my first ever BMW ownership and all was well....until this morning. It had a blast up to Silverstone and back yesterday and went fine. Started her up this morning and she was chugging like an old steam train, or a six-cylinder BMW running on only 5 cylinders. Rough idle, loss of power and rocking around a bit. It was obvious I was a cylinder down.
Research suggested a failed coil and a quick plug in at my independent seemed to confirm this.
I was really worried about the cost of replacing all 6 coils, as this seems to be the best idea if one goes and you can afford it. I was resigned to paying around £600 - £700 quid when the quote was £270 all in, so I was fairly happy with that.
How long can I expect the next one to go, from new? Do they have a lifespan of around 40-odd thousand miles or can they last much longer? Watapain :-(
I only hope the injectors are all OK :-/
