Hi guys, this is my first post, yahoo! It's pretty long but I'm trying to include all the pertinent detail upfront.
I have a 93 325is w 175k. It has been running ok w no work in several weeks. Yesterday I could not start the car. I could crank just fine and turn over but wouldn't catch. I started by replacing the spark plugs since it was time. No change. I made sure there was spark and 12v at the coils.
Then I started looks at the fuel side. I didn't hear the fuel pump turn on so I checked the relay. The relay is good, I took it out and tested it as well as swapped wit two other relays with the same pin layout. The sockets to the relay all seem ok, #30 is always hot and 86 is hot only when the ignition is in pos 2. #85 (cps) is grounded, which I think is correct.
So even with a working relay and working inputs I can't get power to the pump or even fuse 18, the only pump fuse, 1 inch away. I have jumped #30 to 87 to manually turn the pump on, works just fine. So I know the fuse and wiring after the relay are ok. Wth?
Oh and one more thing, I'm still not able to start the car after manually turning the pump on, I can hear the pump and the injectors working after the hot wire.
Could a bad CPS cause a non start, Ive only seen rough idle and other rpm speed issues, no starting problems with CPS.
And would a bad CPS prevent the fuel pump from getting power?
Thank you in advance.
