I have just bought a 318i SE with 91000 miles. It is 2002 and my first BMW! For a 2.0 with 143bhp it seems gutless under 2000 revs (is this normal) and you need to rev it up around 3,000-4,000 revs to get a move on. On my old turbo diesel a lack of power under 2000 revs was caused by a faulty MAF. Is it the same with a petrol? I am presuming because it is a non-turbo you just need to rev it higher to get it going.
Also, when started from warm it makes a horrible loud noise for half a second (sounds like a rubbing noise - loose aux belt?) and then idles really nice and quiet (no ticking or rattling).
Any thoughts would be helpful.
