Really need some advice on this.. sorry for the long message
I bought a 2003 320D with 198000 miles on it. The car was flying, in great condition too. Had it for 3 weeks and an ex of mine put something
into the diesel tank and the car stopped running having driven it for a few miles.
I still don't know what was added to the tank but it left a rust mark on the paintwork around the fuel cap where it was spilt.
I didn't discover this until 3 months later after the car got a new engine fitted which is now giving me awful trouble.
With the first engine, the coil light came on and I parked it and it wouldn't start again.
We changed the oil, fuel filter, turbo filter to a vortex filter, new fuel and 4 new injectors and the car ran for 15 miles then stopped dead like as if it ran out of fuel.
It refused to start. The injectors were not working at all.
Took it to a mechanic he changed the rear fuel pump, then the one under the passenger seat. no difference..
Changed the rail and ECU..no difference..changed the high pressure fuel pump in the engine itself, no difference..
He eventually got the injectors working after fitting 4 new ones.
Then having had it running very badly, very smokey, the engine stopped, he plugged in the diagnostics to find engine had no compression so he said just to replace it.
So I changed it to another engine and this is where I am having problems still...
The new engine was fitted but we still hadn't discovered the fuel had been tampered with at this stage and something had been added to it unfortunately
After fitting it, it started okay, ran on all 4 cylinders, very smokey at first with a bad smell then ran okay after being started and stopped a few times. It wasn't driven.
The car was left for 1 hour then wouldn't start. Checked the injectors, they were not squirting any fuel so back to square one..
It was then we discovered it was the fuel that must have been the problem as the only thing the 2 engines shared was the fuel system and the electronics.
We drained the tank, cleaned it out properly, replaced it with 30 euros of diesel and added a cleaning additive that was advised to me b the local motor factors.
Now on start up the car is running on what sounds like 3 cylinders, after difficulty starting, it runs and sounds very poorly when revved and then after 30 seconds starts pouring out grey smoke.
Please help, I have gone through 8 injectors, 2 engines, and numerous parts and now when the diagnostics are plugged in it is reading low compression even though it starts..
Any advice is welcome please
