Well.....16 months into my ownership and my faith has been further slightly dented. The coils failed after the first 4 months of ownership....but that was sucked up. It went in for its 1st oil service around 2 weeks ago, with the garage bod telling me reliability will not be an issue....
2 weeks later and 2 sensors fail. They hadn't detected anything else wrong...no, the actual sensors failed. Knock sensor - that was a few hundred quid and then the high pressure fuel pump sensor on the same bill.
Am I the only one who thinks that when manufacturers started sprinkling their cars with dozens of sensors that reliability took an almighty hit? A sensor doesn't necessarily have to detect anything wrong but can fail in itself and render a car undriveable. It seems daft..!!!!!
P.S. I've seen a nice looking 04 330d estate with decent mileage for £4995.....I am tempted. It must have fewer sensors on it to go wrong than mine :-(
