New to this forum stuff, and am in desperate need of some tech advice with a fault on my new car.
I recently purchased a 2007 bmw 330d se touring estate, sadly after only owning the car for under a week, I have an electrical issue.
The first sign of the fault was only the 2nd day of owning the car. I was sitting inside the with the ignition on playing with the dab trying to search and store some stations. Half way through doing this, All the electrics on the car just went dead (completely no power at all) no hazard lights, interior lights, central locking, dash lights, ticking over or anything. The key was also stuck in the dash. As soon as this happened, an alarm started sounding for around 20 seconds, then off for 20, then on for 20 n so on.... and kept doing this for around 4/5 minutes, then it stopped.
The alarm didn't sound at all loud enough to be the actual car alarm, it was more like a warning alarm of some kind???
Do you get alarms like that?
Puzzled why this happened, I I got the voltage reader out and went straight to the battery, which was reading 12.5-13v. Ruling out a flat battery, I then went to check the positive jump start terminal under the bonnet... that was also reading 12.5-13v.
I then got another fully charged battery and tried jump starting it...but nothing, no help at all.
Stumped, I called my electrician and asked him to come and have a look. When he arrived he also checked the battery and bonnet terminal and confirmed they both had the right voltage. He then went to the fuse box behind the glove box and started checking the fuses, to which, after checking, initially said I had no power to my fuses.
Whilst checking the fuses, he pushed a few different ones with his thumb, then all of a sudden, the car was alive again, back to normal, everything working as should :-) :-) :-)
He put it down to some of the fuses not being inserted properly and we put it all back together an I went on my way a very happy chappy.
The next morning, I drove to work as normal with no issues. When I got to work and parked up, I locked the doors with the fob key and it did the same thing again..... alarm sounding, and no power what so ever. I had to lock the car manually using the key in the drivers door.
After my days work, I returned to the car in the same state. I opened the glove box and tried fiddling with the fuses as my electrician did, but couldn't get any thing. I the pushed the fuse box with my hand a few times, applying pressure and it came to life again :-)
I have read a lot online about there being a bmw design fault with the e90's fuse box and main power cable connection into the fuse box.
This very strongly suggests that this is my issue, but just wanted to know more and whether I would be correct in assuming this.
I spoke to a bmw trained mechanic now working for himself in his own business. He told me, it would be the junction box that would need replacing and the power cable and connector to it.
Does this sound correct? Or is this just the power cable and not the junction box itself??
I would appreciate any helpful insight/advice on this situation :-)
Has anybody had the same issues???
Many thanks for reading
