In my eternal battle to silence all the various rattles I was playing with the viscous fan earlier.
The engine was hot and I 'tested' the fan by gently moving man hand (with a welding glove on) into the blade to see what resistance there was.....it took pretty much no force to stop it, I could even spin it backwards very easily. When I let go it took a few seconds to spin back up to speed again.
Correct me if I'm wrong here but this means it's fubar doesn't it?
The car doesn't over heat, the only reason I was looking at the fan was when I replaced the alternator, I took all the belts off along with the fan and noticed how smooth/quite the engine sounded, so I'm wondering if the fan is making more noise than it should.
