Got in my 325ti for work this morning and it wouldn't start.. All lights on dash, windows/lights work etc, turn the key and it wouldn't crank.
When you had the bonnet up you could hear a click when the key is turned and then what I can only describe as an electrical signal noise for a few seconds then all silent again until key is turned to crank again.
Tried jump leads thinking maybe the battery was slightly low.. Nothing, made no difference.
So I bump started the car and it then ran fine, got me to work 10 miles away driving faultlessly no issues.. got to work, stopped the engine, started again no issue.
Now my theory is starter motor on its way out.. or... is it just a sticking solenoid? Any way of checking as the starter motor is £100 and the solenoid is £10?
I know I could buy the solenoid and see if it solves the problem but if its not the problem its a waste of a tenner.
Thanks in advance..
