Looking for help with my project. I Rebuilt most of my engine and figured out where all the sensors and vacuum lines go. Now I'm having a problem with the engine starting.
Now the exact problem I'm having with the car. It will start and immediately shut right of by its self. I pulled some gas out of the tank and let it sit overnight, no separation what so ever. so I put a little bit in the throttle body as my wife held the gas open a small amount. the car started right up and held the rpms around 2k. once she let off the pedal it went to a nice smooth idle. The car revved good and warmed up to temp. I put the car in reverse and backed up a few feet then drove back forward into the parking spot. car idled and never had a problem. Then I shut the car off, and it was right back to the same problem. Start and shut off. if I put in a cap full of gas into the throttle body as she tried to start it, it would start and run fine. Does the same thing when engine is cold or hot.
my car is a 2000 328i e46 with a dual Vanos M52tu engine.
Compression test. Engine didn't run so it's a cold/dry test around 60 degrees outside. Working from front of car back, First 2 cylinders 150, third cylinder is 155, 4th and 5th cylinder is 145, 6th cylinder is 160. The test was ran letting the engine get 3 revolutions each, with all plugs removed, and throttle wide open, no oil put in cylinders.
Fuel, switched the relay. Didn't fix so I ran a hot wire to the pump. Didn't fix so I ran a pressure test, got 50 psi at the rail when key is on. Once you try to start the car same reading. When I get the car running by putting gas in throttle body, the car kept 50psi at the rail while idling just fine.
Next was OBD test. Got two initial codes p0120 and p1542, then hit erase codes, and got two different codes p1453, and p0412. Replaced the blown fuse for the secondary pump. Unplugged and plugged in the oxygen sensors. erased codes and no new codes came up.
I pulled the plug off the intake cam sensor, car started then shut off. Plugged it back in and pulled the plug off the ex cam sensor, car started then shut off. Plugged it back in and pulled the plug off the crank sensor, car wouldn't start, just backfire. Plugged it back in, car would start then shut off. Pulled the intake air sensor off, car would start then shut off.
So then I moved onto the spark plug coils. I pulled each off one at a time, car would start then shut off. Every plug did the same thing with no difference.
I pulled the valve cover off and checked the timing, the ex cam triangle lines up with the head where it should, and the crank lines up with the TDC as it should.
Any help would be great.
