The relief of getting a load of work done on the car yesterday was short lived, got up to an empty cooling system today & large puddle sitting on top of the under tray!
Loads of bits off again this morning & found the culprit to be the radiator drain plug.
This may have been a schoolboy error on my part yesterday but when I drained the radiator I initially tried undoing that using a 19mm socket on the green outer part, it turned but didn't seem to come out or do much. Then I held it with a 19mm spanner & undid the inner blue part & that worked. In Haynes manual speak, refitting was the reversal of removal. The car made it home & there were no leaks immediately after replacing the coolant so it must've gone pop at some point on the return journey, the coolant light did come on just as I pulled into my road but I just put that down to it needing a top up after the coolant replacement.
When I got the intercooler out (again, plus the under tray) earlier the whole thing was was hanging a few centimeters down from the radiator & now I'm at the point where I can't seem to get the green outer part to feel like it's tight & in place so I'm sure it'll just pop again once the system is under pressure.
Can't even seem to get the thing out as it just turns in either direction & doesn't appear to be threaded.
Any idea what I've busted here & how I get out of this? Car is unusable again until I can sort this.
