Car is a 2005 facelift e46 320d coupe, its has 96000 miles on the clock, when i got it i had about two weeks of zero problems, apart form the fact the hand brake was a bit shot but re adjusted and everything is fine on that now amd it ran a little rough when it had just started and was cold.
However 2 weeks ago I started noticing that when in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th, driving with steady power on flat ground the engine would stutter almost as though there is fuel loss, its only happens between 1.9 and 2.25, so around where the turbo is spinning up, put the engine under load or take foot off then it stops straight away and pull or decelerates as it should, I read a few posts of similar issues and this is what i have now done to the car
maf sensor cleaned......no change but did pull better
maf sensor unplugged (not while driving just on idle).......still abit lumpy
have now swapped the maf all-together but have not yet had it coded so the idle is rather rough, but the stuttering issue still remains
new air filter, fuel filter and a bottle of injector cleaner, still no change
the engine does seem to be running smoother after all this but still stutters
haven't yet checked the vac pipes for the turbo apparently that can be a common fault, also haven't checked the waste gate yet but when driving it sounds like everything is ok
i plan on running some diagnostics this week end to see what fault codes are thrown up (did have a eml light, came on for a day before i changed the maf and went off after about 4 hours of driving when the maf was changed and hasn't come back since)
has anyone had the same problem or anyone know what it might be?
