E46 318 excessive oil usage/ leak on mates 318i

    Question excessive oil usage/ leak on mates 318i

    my mate told me today hes using about 20 worth of oil every other week, that is excessive and his engine is caked in thick gunky oil, so ive attached a picture of the alternator covered in oil , if anyone has had this before can you give me any ideas so i can help my mate out , ive read on some forums about oil filter seals and ccv and rocker cover i think someone said so if anyone can help will be much appriciated

    You are probably going to need to clean the engine and then run it, if it is leaking that much oil every other week it should show up where it is leaking from fairly quickly, probably from more than one place

    thanks for the reply buddy that the plan of attack tomorrow really is to use engine de greaser and clean up the engine and see what we find
