First 'service' in nearly 4 years! & a big one...

Well I've had my M3 evo over 3 years & I've done 30,000 miles in it. bringing the mileage to nearly 140k now.... Monday will be its first 'official' service!....

Of course i have performed well over 10 oil changes in this time & 1000's of pounds have been spent in 'over' maintenance & replacing parts out old for new, amongst everything else I think I've replaced almost every sensor now....

But I'm no mechanic, just an over enthusiastic novice, so time for the big one. Its going into Phil at CPC on Monday. For an official inspection 1, including valve clearances (way over due) I've also asked to overhaul my vanos unit, so thats to be stripped, cleaned & inspected with numerious new seals to be fitted. & the best bit ... sump off, oil pump strip, clean & check while new bottom end bearing shells will be fitted to the crank,(after running clearances have been checked) with high strength arp rod bolts too

Its a service & a half he's quoted 1200+vat for all the above. Does this sound ok? is there any thing else i should be getting done/checked???

I've had my bottom end done and that cost me 800,1200with arp bolts sounds great.
I wish I'd had more knowledge when I'd had it done as the bottom end went again 6 weeks later, with arp bolts it wouldn't of happened or chopped my right foot off haha.

dropped the car off at cpc Sunday. Had 'brief' communication with Phil. But he's a hard man to get hold of! I feel i have way too many queries, questions & feel a bit like i am hounding the man. I'm sure hes very busy & from what Ive heard my car is in good hands. Just a bit frustrated i haven't spoken to him directly since the car went in...

Been a long week with out the car. I finally had a nice chat with Phil on the phone. He even commented on how well the car drove, & how strong the engine felt.

The whole job seemed to go well. very slight wear to the vanos body but with the s62 solenoid seals he says this will be fine. along with a few others new vanos mounting seals too.

Clearances all checked, 3 shims change. all clearances very even.

All rod bearing replaced with ARP bolts, oil pump all ok too. Apparently cleaned out ALOT of gunk from oil strainers.

So car back, driving sooo lovely & smooth, quite a bit quieter too it seems, NO vanos noise at all.!!! More low down torque & a nice strong pull of power from right at the bottom. Less of a noticeable 'step'.... as the revs go past 1.5k & 2.5k. I very surprised, didn't expect such a noticeable difference... once past 5k it just off on one! & it was quick before! but maybe my solenoids weren't working properly?? there was a slight leak, but very minor. he did re-solder (bridge?) the circuit boards...

I guess the 3 shim changes help improve power delivery to tho?

    the old shells...

Pretty good for 140K i'd say??

The only complaint I have, there seems to be alot of belt noise i guess they contaminated the belt. So I'll bang on a new belt on some time.

    Job done

    Very happy.

A MASSIVE thank you to Phil Crouch at CPC amersham. A very helpful & friendly service. HIGHLY recommended

Those shells look like new to me - good news on that motor....

Worth doing for the peace of mind though I would say....

Job done. Those shells hardly look worn at all. The shells and bolts are the final job to do on mine next year...
