Rear LED light casing looks shattered/fracturer but isnt?

I noticed yesterday in the sun that the main part of the LED rear lights casing on both sides looks like it's shattered/fractured on the inside.. but it isn't?

To the touch there is no give in the casing or signs of movement, as solid as they should be... also the joining smaller non LED part of the rear light setup is fine on both sides.

I tried taking a photo but you can't really make it out very well

Has anyone else seen or heard of this? Any idea what would cause it? Thinking excessive heat possibly?

First thought was rear end shunt but bumper and bootlid would appear to be original paint, shut lines are pretty much as they should be and no sign underneath that anythings been damaged.. also if the lights took a bump they'd be shattered/smashed completely surely!

Not a massive issue, and worst case I could change them for about 70-80 but just a weird one.....

LEDs run much cooler than standard halogen lamps. Chances are it's just ageing plastic

Really? I didn't know that... rules out heat then

Your probably right, assuming they are original lights they'll be coming up on 8 years old so will be fairly weathered over that time
