e46 325 coupe rear shocks, how tight are they in boot, movement seen...

dont know if this is related to the knocking noise i can hear (really strong clunk i can hear with all windows shut, but cant tell if from front or rear, and cant replicate it when parked), but i can the boot open today and the side panels pulled back, to reveal the top of the shock, and when you bounce the car there is movent on these. are they supposed to move at the top? the large washer seems tight to the top of the shock, and both move together

Sometimes the world is still flat, especially if you can't see as far as the horizon

A phone video would help as what oyu might think a lot we might not, and as you are asking it means you don't have the experience to judge, but it also means you won't have a frame of reference for us to explain it.
