    Lightbulb E46 Convertible door locks

I really need to change my drivers door lock. Had a play with it a few weeks back + got it working slightly better (but not much) Now it's got to the point where i'm gonna snap the outer handle sooner or later. I have to yank it that hard

Mention the word convertible and prices go through the roof ......... Was wondering what other E46 locks fit If any? I'm guessing 2 door coupe are the same but 4 door are different. Anyone know for sure??? Thanks guys

Go to RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog and look up your part, then put the part no in and check application and it will show all the models it fits.

To be honest it sounds like it is either an adjustment issue or a new rod or link required.

    Put your roof up ??
    Sorry mate, couldn't resist :p

When you said you've "had a play with it", I assume you mean by doing this:
Quick video on how to adjust bmw e46 door handles - YouTube

If not, give that a shot.

Another thing to check, is that the cable from the outer handle is correctly seated in the holder. But this means removing the door card.

    Lol ..... Thanks mate
I saw this vid a year or so back + it was of no use to me whatsoever as it was already adjusted to the max! What I have done tho is removed the lock and that gives you a gnat's bollock more. Which made it easier to open but not by much. That was a few weeks back. Now it's at the point where you have to keep yanking it as hard as you can + eventually it'll open.
From the inside it's not a problem at all!

As for the cable . . . . WHAT CABLE? Only cable I have is from the interior handle. I have a rod which moves forwards/backwards as you pull or release the door handle but even with the door handle removed completely. It's no different. It may open or it may not

This site has all the pictures you need: E46Fanatics - View Single Post - Coupe door handle

If that cables not seated properly, it'll cause the problems you're describing.

My cable fell out completely, and wouldn't open from the outside at all. I used quite a few cable ties to hold it in place properly. But it's abit of an arse job to do. Extremely fiddly, and you'll slice your hands abit too. You have to be a contortionist to be able to get the cable ties in place

    Hope that helps
