    Cooling fan always on

    Bit of a drama on my 318i 2.0l e46

Since I had it few months I always thought the fan was knackerd and felt it never come on or I just could not here it.

I can now hear it all the time and feels like its on all the time now comes on not long after driving and stays on

What's the best way to fault check ??

doubt they'd even notice/be interested in the fan.

    No wouldn't fail Mot.

If the fan goes off when you turn the ignition off then the fan is ok but the sensor (rad outlet temp sensor) is duff, or it's wiring (unlikely).
The ECU is putting the fan at nr 100% because it's getting no signal & that's an 'emergency' response to that. Their should be a code for it.
Sounds to me like your sensor is duff.
Btw you can checkout what I said from the WDS.

If the fans stays on permanently with the ignition off then the module in the fan unit is duff, then you'd need a whole new fan :/

True, but I don't think he said it wasn't over-cooling, unless you can see something I can't
