    Touring - Cheap Weight Saving?

    For a while jow I've been struggling with the options of comfot/versatility and shedding weight, all with little to no budget.

    So far I've done nothing really, replaced the VERY heavy oem backbox with a stainless twin exit and taken the spare out of the boot.
    What i'm wondering is: what can be done CHEAPLY to shed some weight while keeping as many seats as possible?

    I'd rather not turn the touring into a two seater (until i have a POS hatchback runabout) and i know replacing the front seats is a good way to get rid of a lot of weight, and i'll remove the air con when i have the money to get it done.

    Any other suggestions? Remember - budget lol

    Sorting out the interior wiring loom and removing as much as possible will save a shed load!

    Remove carpets and sound deadening. These are very heavy.

    Can both be done for free.

    No Derek not turning it into a track car, think of it as a 323i Superleggera :P
    Just a bit lighter and nimbler on her feet would be nice.

    Do you know if thinner, lighter sound deadening can be sourced? Don't want to eliminate it completely as she's pretty loud as it is lol

    When you say 'interior wiring loom' what do you mean? Fitting auxilliary switch panels instead of the standard buttons?

    That e36 pick up is FIT!! And a touring could be turned into a 5 seat pickup! :O

    Ohh, a double cab pick up! I'm not going to lie, BMW should do one....I'm sure they will see sales in USA, Canada and South Africa....maybe Australia too, but they have some bullsh*t tax on luxurious cars lol

    Here's some nice ones;

    Don't give the project to the Russians, otherwise they'll end up like these;

    You could always make money by shaving bits of your car, but it will end up like this and in trouble with the law lol

    Dynamat and similar stuff tends to weigh a lot less than OEM deadening. Not cheap though, and you'll need a fair bit of it.

    Touring - Cheap Weight Saving?

    I was also wondering if replacing the bench seat in the back with a pair of lighter, fixed ( not on runners) buckets/recliners might be phesible.

    I need to take the seats out and have a look... Subframes but not runners... Hmm..
