    E46 330i Oil Question

    Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has used Fuchs TITAN GT1 XTL 5W-40 synthetic engine oil?
Am about to service my car and have purchased this oil hoping that it may reduce my oil consumption.
Was previously using Comma 5w30 from my local motor factor. Was wondering if anyone has used the Fuchs oil and
if it helped in reducing oil consumption? Have changed oil filter housing gasket (that was fun!) and CCV valve and pipes (even more fun!)
which has helped but the car is still using even more oil than my wifes Alfa! I reckon it's now using approx 1lt every 1000 miles.

    Cheers

ya getting worried about nothing that oil consumption is more than normal on an M54 engine mine has done the same for the last 100k or more...

just get used to it mate its nowt to worry about...

GM dexos2 is BMW spec oil and cheap as fook so it does not batter the wallet for top ups...

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick response! Best car I have owned so far so can stomach the top ups as long as I'm not the only one! How many miles has your motor done now?

    Re: E46 330i Oil Question

Like the cars previous owner I have continued to use 5w40 BMW LL01 spec oil in my 330ci. (currently 115k)
Top ups are minimal between the 7/8k oil & filter changes.
If you want to give it a try & LL01 or equivalent is suitable for your engine Triple QX from ECP is mega cheap, especially with ecp's discount codes.

115k owned it nearly 10 years now, oil consumption is legendary on these engines some are better than others but most do it i dont know why...

they dont sell 1 litre top ups in a snazzy leatherette pouch with paper funnel and wipes for nothing at all BMW dealers at the desk

its cos they know they use oil..

opie is good vfm but as previously recommend by dd LL04 spec GM Dexos2 5w30 from reputable ebay sellers is only 22/23 for 5 litres delivered, not too bad even if you're topping up every 1k?

Funnily enough I had added this stuff to my watch list on ebay but decided against buying it firstly because...

    1) I thought I was being a tight arse and should buy some decent oil for my motor
    2) Was hoping that the slightly thicker Fuchs may help reduce my oil consumption

Looks like I thought too hard about it!!

Do you know if this Dexos 2 will mix ok with the Fuchs for top ups? Or would it be best to buy more Fuchs?
