    can anyone help me change my thermostat

    hi i got 328 e46 auto and im looking to change the stat the only guide i can find is for manual and apparently on manuals its different want to have a go myself rather than put it in garage am i thinkin the viscos fan has 2 be removed etc if anyone can help with a guied in some way etc be greatful.

    Don't limit your search to just your model fella because other E36/E46 engines use the same process. Here are some examples . I did a write up ages ago for my old E46 but can't remember where I stored it . Probably somewhere on bfuk.

    am i right in thinking once i remove viscos fan i should be able to gain acces to housing thats only things i need to remove to get to it plastic guard and viscos fan

    got my new stat and housing it didnt come with a gaskit but i noticed the housing is little raised with rubber seal do i not need gaskit then paper style one thnigy

    I didn't take my fan off on an E36 and had no problem changing it with Visco fan still on. The blades aren't evenly spaced so a 3/8 ratchet being small also helps. Even had space to get torque wrench in

    just had a crack at doing the stat cant work out how to get plastic guard off around the fan cant pull it up cos of blades can someone explaing on how to get the gaurd off

    If you have undone the fan, then it should lift out together with the shroud.
