    Emission Problems

Hello people, My 318 2.0l petrol. 2002 just failed MOT badly on emissions. There has been a miss fire witch has caused to much unburnt fuel sitting in the cat and destroying it. What could be causing the over fueling and the miss fire. There is no air leeks it has new MAF just replaced spark plugs and the miss seems to be at about 1750---2000 rpm
Looking forward to your input. Thanks.

I have OBD reader but but nothing showing. I did have cat efficacy below threshold but new MAF stoped that.

Its a good answer because i have changed the MAF witch solved a light a had on but still not running 100% and i didn't change it for a Bosch part. Thanks

What about a second hand Genuine?

Good question. i have the cat in the shed ready to be replaced wednesday. But would a bad cat cause over fuelling

Ok thanks everyone.. from what i could understand from the testing centre was that the cat was no good there for emission fail.. he Did say there was a misfire, but my understanding was that if i replace the cat it should pass next time even if there is a misfire, is this correct? I be leave the miss fire is due to over fuelling!Attachment 3983 Here are my emision test results if any one fancies casting an eye.. cheers again

Dose the n42 have a Disa Valve?

[QUOTE=dailydoggy;72717]it seems to me your running around in a circle going nowhere waiting for an answer you want to hear..

you need to address the alleged missfire and investigate the engines health and fuel air ratio...

it also sounds like you have bin driving this car with this fault for a sustained period of time and have fried the cat/cats, and i cannot beleive you have not had an emissions warning light blaring away at you on the dash..[/Q
I think you are right thanks for help fella

OK so I posted early in the week about bad emissions, it failed MOT due to the Cat being fooked as a result of a misfire causing to much unbunrt fuel sitting in the cat a sentiently rotting it. I had thought that the car been using more fuel but had took much notice as not doing many miles at all at the moment, but over the last week i have been keeping an eye onit and MPG is down by a fair bit... what are the likely causes whats going on? I have no Lights on no codes showing on reader and i have order inpa data cable.. any help now is a bonus cheers people.

    Re: emissions fail BAD times

Lambda sensors monitor fuel/air mix together with the MAF and will cause emission problems if not working correctly. Misfire could be down to coilpack. Maybe get some diagnostics done.
