alternator, belt, and tensioner pulley replacement

Hi, just ordered the parts from Alternators & Starter Motors Both New, Reconditioned & Refurbished Starters & Alternators | West Lancs Auto Electrics

118quid for the alternator. then 30 quid for a new belt and 40 quid for the tensioner.

I have the haynes manual, and some guides i found on forums, but anything special that I should be careful of, and is it a fairly easy job?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I used this DIY guide when I changed my oil filter housing gasket which involved removing the parts you want to change.

DIY: Oil Filter Housing Gasket, Idler Pulley, Oil pipe - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

It shows you clearly how to remove the belts and alternator. Shouldn't be too hard as I managed to change my oil filter housing gasket and I'm no expert.

    Hope this helps

    wot type of tensioner?

mechanical one has a 16mm hex head cast into it which you put a socket and ratchet on to lever it off you can also peg it in the released position with a small drill bit...

you have to remove the rad fan unit on a manual car for good access, itsa 2 minute job is modular and slides up and out..

Yes it gives you so much room to get on the belts from uptop, did mine last month. Its a 32mm nut LEFT hand thread. put a spanner on the nut and give it a clout to shock the nut loose then it will just undo. You also have to remove the fan cowling aswell which just 2 torx bits then it slides out with the fan
