I think that airbag light is to tell you the passenger airbag is turned off so could be a fault there.
I would still wait for a second opinion.

Jim, that light covers a multitude of things so without knowing what INPA says, we can't speculate.

Get INPA plugged up, and we can take it from there mate

Mine illuminated after moving the passenger seat as far back as it would go, ended up be pretensioner error and I cable tied the plug back together and it sorted it.
I've some screen shots of that error Jim so it might help identify the INPA section to scan, iirc its 'body' but we'll see!

Here's what I did to fix it Jim....

Gave it a wiggle, pulled the wire taught then re cable tied it in place, erased the error and hey presto

For those like me, who've never done this before, using a 16mm A/F socket you'll need to remove the 2 nuts at the front of the seat runner
and the 2 bolts at the rear of the runner and then carefully tip the seat back to rest on the rear seat.
The pre tensioner wiring will be now on view.

As you know Jim mine was on in my 320d and it was the passenger seatbelt occupancy sensor gone tits up which is a common problem.
I can't remember exactly how to get into the airbag bit on INPA, but its easy to see on the menus

Because you need to have a driver in there all the time there is only a sensor on the passenger side

I used a little plug with a resistor inside that turns the airbag on all the time(passenger in seat). I got it from ebay for under a tenner I think.

Here is a link to what I bought Jim:

BMW PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY BYPASS MAT SENSOR AIRBAG E46E36E38E39E60E65M3M5Z3X5 | eBay

Just leant under the seat, plugged it in and it turned itself off, didn't even need to use INPA
