    rattling

hi all my e36 328i has developed a rattling from the exhaust,it seems to be rattling from near the down pipe, only does it when idle and low revs ie pulling away first and second gear, once revs are higher it stops,i have been told it could be the cat converter has anyone got any ideas on this as the rattling is doing my head in now

    Re: rattling

Bash the cat with your fist. You might be lucky and just have the weld the cat shield back on.

Also check the heat shield on the body of the car around the exhaust area.

Yep, first it was my heat shields, now that is reattached it is he cans around the cats but I would not remove them they protect the cats and help keep the heat in so put a couple of tight hose clips around them or something,

the cat covers on mine got destroyed on my old 328 exhaust and my new one has a dint and a slight rattle already due to an idiotic council policy of digging up a rd without signs at night and a drain cover raised about 4 inches higher than normal
