So, how hot does it get under the bonnet @ Air filter?

I plumbed in a temp sensor into my air intake pipe so i could monitor temps.

My air filter is actually in my bumper, so not within the engine bay. It is connected by silicone pipes and metal pipes as shown in the pic. The temp probe is fitting within the metal pipe near my MAF.

So how hot does it get under there? Also take not the probe is within the metal pipe, so the heat has to soak the pipe to get hotter!

The outside temp is around 5-6c

This video was taking after sitting in traffic for about a mile @ 10mph.

I came off the roundabout and accelerated.

after parking the car for a few mins to go in the shop (5mins or so)

and after driving for 2 mins

soon i will put an air filter within the engine bay to see how much it drops by.

The actual temp after driving up to normal operating temp is a few degrees above outside ambient temp. But unless you use full throttle, the heat climbs.

    Heatsoak !

You need heat shield's all around the induction ducting, but even then you'll never fully combat heatsoak !

my setup is ok, as after driving for a few mins the temp drops dramatically.

its when the car sits after driving or traffic the temp goes up

i will test again with an air filter and heat shield, but i dont think the heatshield will do anything amazing! compared to actually having the filter out the engine bay.

    This is normal !

You are flogging a dying horse by even attempting to combat heatsoak !

    indeed!
so air filters/heat shields within the engine bay are pointless! after heatsoak of sitting in traffic etc my temps drop back down, cant wait to try with heatshield and cold air feed.
