First time on this forum - newbie here seeking advice from anyone who may have done/attempted a similar project to the one I'm about to embark upon.
Before going any further I know I am completely mad and should just go out and buy a diesel/forget it/have cranial surgery....................I'm not looking for those kind of replies. I'm going ahead with this because I want to and have the time so please.....no wise cracks.
I've bought E36 328i Coupe (1995) without and engine or box - the shell is mint and it has a very reasonable black leather interior. I also have a complete, up and running 325tds saloon (1995) - tatty body and not so good interior but the engine and box are good. My intention is to transfer everything necessary from the 325 into the 328 making a 325tds Coupe.
I am prepared for a lot of work and expect differences to come out of the woodwork and hit me over the head so I wondered if anyone has ever attempted such a feat and if they have any pointers to help?
The one thing that I think could cause me some problems is the wiring: in particular the fact that the 328 was an automatic and most likely had a gearbox ECU whereas the 325 is a manual so clearly doesn't. I could of course fit an autobox and I believe the one that was in the 328 is still available but this would need the flywheel and torque converter wouldn't it? I think these are also available but doubt/not sure they are suitable/will fit the 325 diesel engine. The other option (and my biggest nightmare) I guess would be to swap the wiring loom as well.
Anyway, any sensible help would be greatly appreciated.
