Hi all, happy new year! I have an active steering issue I can't figure out and I don't think the dealer can either!
e60 2004 with active steering; the module was faulty and was replaced with brand new. On the test drive the light went out, but came on again at the first sharp turn.
INPA shows the driver angle and summary angle as reading normally when the engine is off. Sometimes when the engine is started the summary angle will jump to -1440 (-8192 basis) and stay there until the engine is off again. If it stays normal when the engine has started, then the system will initialize, but at the first sharp turn it will fail and show -1440 again.
The SZL has been swapped with another used SZL and got the same result, now the original SZL is back in. The rack was then replaced with brand new.
I'm not sure if the summary sensor displaying -1440 means there is a fault with the summary sensor or its connections, or if the AFS module shows that by default when there is an angle discrepancy. When the error happens the codes are 613C, 613F and 614A.
When the engine is off or if it has been started without the error happening, the summary sensor reads zero at centre and around 525 degrees either side. The driver angle reads zero at centre and 405 degrees either side (when AFS is not initialized).
Any ideas welcome
