Hi, I am finally back in to BMW ownership but this is my first BMW diesel and it has what feels like quite a serious problem. I will describe the problem and then give some details of the car in case that helps.
The problem is that when driving it, it feels extremely flat and underpowered until it hits 3000 rpm and then it feels like all hell has broken loose clearly the turbo is boosting at full boost but has a huge amount of what feels like turbo lag. No matter what gear, under 3000rpm feels pretty dead, especially higher gears, but then feels like it is working fine after 3000rpm. Also on start up from cold a small amount of blue smoke comes out of the exhaust for a couple of minutes, but after 2 or so mins it clears up and is fine.
Now some details on the car
It has recently had an engine rebuild after a swirl flap broke off and made its way into the engine during the rebuild the car had 2 new injectors and the other 4 reconditioned, and also new MAP and MAF sensors fitted.
It has also been remapped and de cated, these two things alone would have made me think the turbo would spin up quicker not lag more!!
The only thing not replaced at the time of rebuild was the turbo, but the chap i bought it from said it had a new cartridge fitted.
The car is a 53 plate E60 530D so im assuming its the 218bhp version not sure if these early ones had electronic actuators????
its also a manual if that makes any difference.
Previous owner was told by a garage the turbo was at fault, and while i dont mind putting a recon turbo on it, id rather check its not something else first.
Any help would be great, car still very fast to drive but a little bit infuriating as it does take some work to overtake thing and dropping a lot of gears to get the revs up.
Thanks in advance!!
