Aye aye folks!
Changed the plugs this morning and the soot on the old ones was pretty bad on them. Ive had the new plugs since putting the car off the road for painting etc 6 weeks ago and wasnt planning on changing them till it was ready for the road again. Yesterday tho i started the old boy up and it ran REALLY bad. Turned out there was no spark on cyls 1, 2 and 6! Only changed the plugs about 4k miles ago. Alls good with the new ones tho.
Been trying to work out something tho. The car needs a new cat at Mot time as it failed on emissions last year and i think its quite badly blocked as im getting a kinda PHUT PHUT from the exhaust as well, what that be right do you think?
It overheated last year as well and when the mrs got it home and i checked the guage it was right off the red. I couldnt understand the overheating as the water pump, fan, thermo and gaskets are all good. Now im thinking it was maybe the blocked cat that caused it as the heat/ air flow couldnt escape properly and went back up to the engine?
Im thinking the sooty plugs might just be from the overheat as well?
Also the last few months cyl 6 has been leaking oil onto the spark plug so im going to change the rocker cover gasket as well. Would this be affecting it badly as well?
Been reading about the CCV as well and wondered if this could be deleted?
Sorry it a bit long winded but im still not 100% sure the headgaskets gone and want to try giving this engine a chance
Its done 2500 miles since Oct with K seal in it and ran sweet till the fouled plugs yesterday and is running sweet today with the new plugs. The old and new plugs are the NGK BKR 6EK with the 2 prongs
Appreciate any advice guys
