    Loss of power

    Hi

Coming home tonight my car seemed to lose a lot of top end power and didnt seem to shift much when I have the throttle open fully the car revs to a high rev before wanting to change.

I was thinking tuebo but there is no smoke and no weird noises and the idrive did shut down 5 mins after this started.

Could it just be a computer glitch?

    Thanks

Any lights appear on the dash? engine lights? Any hissing sounds when flooring the throttle?

Okay drove to work today, deffinatly no hissing when flooring the throttle just the car seems quite jerky like the bigger turbo is kicking in but then dies, I managed to get the car up to 70 although took a while and overtaking is out of the question, no faults on the idrive or the dash and no whining or smoke whatsoever which makes me believe that its not a blown turbo and my suspicions are pointing towards a burst/split vacuum hose although havent had a chance to check that yet but have heard the hoses can give bother in the 535?

    Thanks

iirc - hoses perish noticably more on the 535's. Good starting point

+1, seem to recall one or two owners having to replace all vacuum pipework and in some cases the Pressure Converters(Items #1 & 2) themselves were failing!

The problems I've read about related to split hoses involve the loss of the smaller (lower revs) turbo with the larger one still functioning higher in the rev range.

Not sure if it can't happen the other way around though. Seems odd that if you have such a performance drop it hasn't thrown a code which lights the EML yet

Could you connect it up to your laptop to look for error codes?

Thanks for all the help guys just was worried in case the turbo blew

Johann sorry no as I dont have an obd cable.

Im not sure as the main turbo may be working and the small turbo still functioning because when thinking about it its still quick enough in first gear etc as I got up the hill from my house fjne it seems to e once it revs up a bit more it begins to die and doesnt have that oomph or torque that I love about my 535 :'(

Could that e the big turbo off? :(

I think the small one's pretty much done by 1500 revs and the larger one is coming on song for anything above that. Your performance issue sounds like it's more related to the bigger one to me.

That said, there's no reason to suspect it'll be any more troublesome than if the smaller one wasn't working due to the vacuum leak - it's just less driveable in the mean time (if the smaller one fails you're left with something more like a badly set up 530d I expect).
