    Infamous swirl flaps

Have just bought an 02 530d m sport can anyone confirm whether it will need 22mm or 33mm blanks?
    Grateful for any advice thanks.

Manual or auto gearbox? Pretty sure the manuals haven't got them fitted but will check 100% later.

Spot on Jim, with a bit of luck the OP will have manual but tbh if I bought another derv I'd still remove & clean the intake manifold then scrub the EGR cos we all know how mankey they get :yuk

I heard reports of some 184bhp manuals having flaps as well?

If/when I get my 330d the first thing I will do is remove the manifold and check for flaps/clean it all up.

I've heard of only one and it was surmised that when the previous owner replaced the original split intake manifold he replaced it with one with swirl flaps!
It is possible to see actuator rod if you peer under the manifold down the left hand side of the EGR valve.

Gotta agree whip it off and clean it out

The 3 series was a bit of a crap shoot where swirl flaps are concerned.
The 5 series was just on the auto's though. So glad I bought a manual. All I've had to replace has been the turbo and inlet manifold after it popped.

Bin the EGR and get a bypass. Much higher flowing. I saw a 5mpg increase when I fitted mine. Although I did decat at the same time when I replaced the turbo...
