    Charging Fault

    Hi guys

Got into the car to go to work this morning and the car bleeped displaying charging fault and saying the car was not charging the battrey. Began to panic but the car did not shut any of the systems down sat nav radio etc. The car done this two days ago and then the fault disappeared after I restarted the car and it only seems to happen on cold mornings. Although my first instinct is the alternator is gone but hoping maybe someone can help point me in the right direction.

PS I will read the fault codes on INPA later and post them up.

    Cheers

    Chris

    Charging Fault

Got to say my first instinct is that it sound's like the battery to me.
Very easy to check with a multimeter if its the alternator or battery

Shall check when I get home, could it even be a loose connection? Battrey is only two months old :(

Ah didn't know battery is that new
Yea check connections and check the battery with car on and off and under full load lights etc battery should be over 14v when running and hold at around 12.6 when car is off
Good luck and let us know what the fault is

    Re: Charging Fault

Could be the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) Chris?
Tbh I personally don't know much about them but @NealP has mentioned them in several posts.

TIS has a bit of info on them.. http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/08/88/45

You didn't do that battery coding thing when you fitted it did you? Perhaps there's some truth to it?

    Charging Fault

Actually I didnt :( may have to look into that lol, just jumped into the car and no issues and is a good bit warmer than this morning, done a bit of research and it seems a common enough fault on the alternator when its cold, dont know what id be better doing getting someone to refurb my alternator as Ive heard a guy local to me is really good at it or just buy a new one.
