Just a bit stuck with something so im hoping for a wee pointer or some advice if poss
Since ive had the nasty the rev counter hasnt worked, its sprang to life for maybe 5 seconds 4 or 5 times since last August
I thought i could swap in an e34 525 cluster and swap the coding plug to keep the correct mileage and diff ratio etc
That didnt work as the coding plugs are different and the 525s rev counter didnt work in the e32 either
So, yesterday i thought id try the cluster from the spares 730 into the 735. The rev counter from the 730 still didnt work in the 735 when it does work in the 730
Then i tried the 735s cluster in the 730 and got this
The 735s cluster/ rev counter works fine in the 730
Was a bit confused so i did a cluster test to see if the 735 cluster is original and it is, Vin matches the car
rev counter moves as well on the test, but not when the engines running
its not a must do fix right now but im a bit confused with it now. Ive got the e32 Bentley but its twice as thick as the e34 one and half of its gobbledeegook to me
So im thinking now its the 735s wiring thats faulty but was wondering as well if theres maybe some kinda sensor or switch that sends a signal to the rev counter?
If its the wiring then i think ill be without a rev counter for a while longer but hoping its a fix i can do myself
What do you think guys? Anyone had and fixed that problem before?
