You've got to send the V5 to them?
Can you not just send them a picture?
When he get plates made for work a B+W photocopy of the V5 is good enough.
No way would I be posting my ownership docs off to some random company...

    Pressed Plates

Fairly sure quite a few of the people on the mk4 forum I'm on have used them. They should accept a photocopy of the v5 though

They are, providing they're in the correct font, correctly spaced, reflective and carry the maker's post code and the correct BS marking (which Dumbmeister's plates do)

There's a company on eBay that does pressed plates, legal font, colour, size etc and you don't have to send any documentation. Just send your licence plate number and whether you want the "GB" badge or not.

I've just used a company that sounds like the same one for my new personal plate. Legal font, legal spacing, BS mark etc. They've not arrived yet, but I'll post up to give my impression about the quality when they do. Will probably be mid week now I think as they've only been sent out today I'm told.

got mine from dubmeister - no problems at all. i didnt want to send my original documents in so i found a local garage that was a deals with then, went in, they scanned them and it was as simple as that. they came in the post not long after :-)
re: legality, there is nothing on a mot inspection list that specifies what material the plates are made of. they need the correct font, spacing, size and be reflective. a friendly mot tester gave me a copy of the requirements just incase i had any trouble.

    Pressed Plates

I think they technically need the post code of the maker on them too? Pretty positive that as long as the font and spacing is correct you'd not get pulled. Is the postcode part of the MOT regs?

I also though that as long as you called them 'Show Plates' then you needed no docs at all - then as long as you meet the above regs I can't see why you couldn't use them reasonably risk free.

PS: I think Dubmeister are sound - they've been trading for a long time.
