Hi everyone. I`m new to the site and hoping to pick some expert brains!
I'm trying to fit a 1994 M51 diesel and auto box into my 1984 Chevy Shasta motorhome to replace the old V8 lump and I'm running into ECU related snags.
The engine came from Ebay and was complete with engine harness, ECUs and fuel pump but not the key code unit.
I'd prefer to do away with the ECUs altogether so my questions are -- Can I replace the injector pump top with a mechanical one or is a complete pump required?
Also, will the auto transmission still work ok without it's ECU?
The engine has normal (not common rail) injectors and the box has the usual mechanical selector lever.
Any tips are welcome because I really like this engine (apart from the technology). - Smooth, powerful and a great sound!
