I have been trying to diagnose why my airbag light is on on my 318 E46as far as i'm aware they now fail MOT on the air bag light.
So I plugged it in a few hours ago and got the following codes:
03 Belt tensioner Front passenger
70 Seat Occupancy detector
50 Power supply
I immediately stuck my head under the passenger seat and found the following:
As you can see each plug has 2 wires that appear to have been cut, there is obviously a number of reasons why these wires have been cut. I assume they don't send cars out of the factory with wires looking like that so it possible these seats could have been changed at some point from a higher spec model etc Or it could be the more worrying thought that at some point somebody has been chopping wires in my car (I have had it just under a year but the light has been on since I have owned it) The two sets of wires don't appear to be related. Pic 1 has two black wires and pic two has two blue and purple wires
So I can't clear the error code I have disconnected and played about with it a bit and now just seem to be getting the 70 Seat occupancy detector if i then attempt to clear that and run again I then just get the 04 Airbag stage 1 code.
Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will be able to help me. I have spent hours reading forums. I have seen these devices that make the seat "occupated" at all times and keep the air bag working I have also seen that you can solder a resistor into the little black box but I want to be relatively sure what the issue is before I attempt to fix it.
Thanks in advance for any help.
