I have been trying to retrofit the oil temp gauge out of a e36 m3 instrument cluster into my e36 328i's instrument cluster.
I wired the oil temp sensor up to pin 13 of the white (x16) connector and fitted the gauge into my cluster and plugged it in.
When I went for a drive the gauge acted like the mpg one.
So I unplugged pin 21 on the white (x16) connector (input for fuel consumption).
This stopped the gauge moving with mpg but still doesn't register oil temp.
With the engine on and the car stationary the needle is off the gauge and when moving the needle drops to minimum.
So it's still getting a fuel consumption feed or something from somewhere and I'm stumped.
Any suggestions from anyone?
I know the temp sensor is working as I have tested it.
