I'm a newbie seeking advice on improving in-car-entertainment my E46 - for functionality and appearance.
I studied every upgrade option known to man, including high-end Pioneer/Alpine double DiN units, the Chinese pretend OEM units from Eonon/Dynavin/Veyron, etc. The consensus of opinion seemed to be that:
- Eonon/Dynavin/Veyron OEM double DIN units fit neatly into the dash, pricing good but quality is poor and lack features such as DAB.
- High end double DIN Pioneer/Alpine units are expensive (£700+), deliver on quality but require facia plates which spoil the overall appearance.
- Is this fair or does anyone have a different opinion?
In the end, I bought and fitted a single DIN Alpine CDE-136BT CD / DAB with the separate amp. It has great functionality, although the display options are limited by its size. The biggest problem is that the overall appearance is naff. The unit sits at a different angle to the dash and the facia plate is not centred - see attached photo.
Some forums talk about a BMW part number 65900410495 which includes a centralised faceplate and cage. This costs north of £70 but would be worth the money if it fixes the problems I've described. Has anyone gone down this route and quote for supply of this part?
I would appreciate any constructive advice. Cheers. Robert.
