Upon reading a few sites & such, this is what comes up:
    Front Midbass - 6.25"
    Front Midrange - 2.5"
    Front Tweeter - 5/8"
    Rear Midrange - 2.5"
    Rear Midbass - 6.25"
The midbass drivers mount via 3 screws and not the standard 4.The midrange/tweeter in the front is mounted to a single plate.
Removing the speakers involves removing the front door cards, as well as the rear-shelf speaker covers...
I've found a PDF guide (...HERE..) from BSW, that details the replacement of all speakers on e46

If you have a HK sub, the wiring should be in the trunk (where the sub is located) (page #2 if THIS PDF would show where the factory-sub is located)

Other e46 experts on this forum should help shed more light on this

    Coupe or loon?

Hk isn't worth the hassle just buy a decent aftermarket sub and amp

As for the front comps you will need adapter plates

Also it's no so much the size it's the depth you need to be more concerned with. The max depth you can go is 2" and finding speakers that are shallow is a pain
