My OEM headunit in the 728i is just a tape player but with a 6 CD changer in the boot etc... No DSP, no built in sub or amp either (tape player unit does all that)
Now the tape player unit is the main head unit and its single DIN so I'm looking to replace this BUT I'd like to know if a Kenwood patch lead (as I've got a Kenwood single DIN head unit already) would work and allow me to keep the in built telephone system and steering wheel controls working?!
I've took the tape player unit out and it has the BMW connections at the back plus the aerial and a single small grey cable (unsure what this is so suggestions appreciated)?
Has anyone done this to their E38 (or E39 as I think they're fairly similar) and did you manage to keep your steering wheel controls?
