Well, this day was bound to come, and granted I should have started one earlier in the year or even when I had my E36. But better late than never! Warning, this will be a slow project so don't expect things to get updated quickly I'm in a constant war with myself whether to get the car clean as when it left the factory (like con-course, repairing small things), or to modify it slightly, or whether to use the 'modification money' to fuel my driving to nowhere sessions.
Anyway, here is the plan for the 523i. I have made previous plans in other threads, but I wasn't sure what to choose as I newly acquired the car, but now I know (for most things) As I've said, things won't happen over night but they will eventually happen. Any updates done to the car will be added on this thread, hopefully with pictures too . Overall plan is to make the E39 more modern and pleasing on the eye, while keeping it's classic lines and comfort.
> Light window tints (like factory look)
> OEM facelift headlamps (will need adapters to work in prefacelift cars)
> OEM celis rear lamps (No ballasts needed as I have LCMIII, so i'll code it, need adapters, and a bit of body modification)
> Yellow front fogs
> M5 boot spoiler
> Metal licence plates (recently saw gel plates, so that could be on the cards)
> Licence plate holders (received a set yesterday - photos below)
> LED licence plate lamps (done)
> Fit one of those widescreen DVD/Sat nav type of stereo (Eonon d5124fe about £310 from e of the Bay)
> Front licence plate delete (for shows/photos only)
> Larger OEM/BBS wheels
> Prefacelift V8 kidney grilles
> Lower it
> Upgrade the sound system (after market door speakers, and see if I can fit 6x9s in the parcel shelf some how)
> When I'm bored and have money to spend, perhaps I can search for alternative wood trims....like natural poplar or Arizona sun.
> Sports steering wheel (need a wheel has the dual stage airbag/connections. E39s made after 03/99 had dual stage)
> If I go down the M sports bumper route, then I need a sport exhaust
> If I go down the facelift SE bumper route, then I'll need colour coded exterior trim
Changes so far have been;
Fitting LED licence plate lights
Me coding the front indicators (20% brightness) as side lights
I bought some German BMW dealership licence plate holders from a member of a 5 series forum brought in from Germany. Most BMW holders on eBay have "M-Power" or some other off putting writing on it for a non M model. Very rare to find a dealership holder. Anyways, I was hoping on putting metal pressed plates, but the same member showed me his plate. It was the gel type (and legal). Very nice I must admit.
That's it for now. Thanks for looking
