Sorry there has been no updates to my E36, been so busy with the new job coming up to and now after Christmas, also getting back into my fitness, so doing gym and badminton for all 5 working days.
After wanting one for ages, I finally got myself an E38 740i....but unintentionally it ended up as an "L" (long wheelbase).
Here is some pics from the sale advert, I will try and get some pics, just that it is getting so dark by like 4pm I cannot take pics during the week (I will do so on the weekend no doubt )
So i've been looking half-heartedly since about Oct, as I had no rush to buy one. Daily checking the common places (autotrader, ebay, pistonheads and 7series forum), I didn't want to spend loads, as I do high mileage (~16k for work) so wanted to add on LPG.
Nothing came up really that tickled my fancy, until this did. It was originally at a higher price, unfortunately out of my budget, I was gutted as it seemed a steal at that price, and I couldn't stretch to it.
But weirdly the seller didn't get many genuine calls, all messers, so for a quick sale he dropped the price, which was in my budget, only problem it was in Kent a 5hour round trip from me...and I spotted it on a Monday. I thought negative things as I was going to miss this!
I rang the seller, spoke a while about the car, explained my want for it, but I just couldn't come until the weekend, so I left him a deposit as he could see my want for it!
Story about the car:
Sellers wealthy old Uncle owned it from new, as a company car for his Pharmacy. He then drove and maintained it for 10years but got ill and didn't use it for 2years (but he would have it serviced and MOT'd yearly still...wtf?).
Then after another couple of years he had a stroke and couldn't drive at all, so he gave it to his nephew (the seller), and when he did, he said to him to go take it to B&T Wise (BMW Specialist) and get anything that needed sorted, or even if it looked like it did lol.
So he spent £4500, yes FOUR THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS, on ever suspension component, all the typical weak points like the PCV valve with all pipework etc (with it all documented).
This literally made my eyes light up, as my only worry with something like this, is the pain in the backside it is changing suspension components, but now I should have no problem for a very long time!
So I picked up my best mate from Coventry at 7am on Sunday (he was busy Saturday) and off we went to Kent. The area near his house was mental, could tell it was a wealthy area, which rang true with what he said.
Got to his house and got allowed through the gates driving down the MASSIVE drive to a Stately Home, me and my mate were gobsmacked. There he awaited ready to show us round the car. He threw me the keys and jumped in the passenger side, with my mate in the back.
It was so smooth, even when cold, it drove like I was driving on a bloody cloud made from cushions, no noises, no bangs, is this car new? Have I hit the jackpot? Mate was admiring the acres of room in the back.
Drove for a few miles then headed back to the house, had a poke over it, seemed better than we had imagined. Looked through the STACK I mean literally mountain of paper, including initial bill of sale from his uncle.
Mileage all checked up (96k), service history all ticked, inspection 2 done when it was needed etc, added bonus of having a warranty changed gearbox at ~60k (stupid BMW with their "lifetime oil" crap, this is another story of my hate haha ).
He then mentioned, it came on 16's standard wheels originally, but he bought the Style 37's as he preferred the look (agreed there), but I can have the 16's, but they were at his other house in London, so he said due to him forgetting to get them, he will courier them over to me...so these will have winter tyres thrown on them
Ok back to the car, it is not my "ideal spec", as some of you know how much of a fussy git I am. :P
Things i'd want to ideally do (depending on complexity of adding them) is heated seats and 16:9 satnav.
So if anyone knows if I can swap over heated seats in (if I can find same colour as mine with heated elements already) and how much wiring is involved, or even if someone who offers this service would be great. Satnav isn't really needed, but I like the OEM look of it.
Only bad thing about it, it has rust on the drivers front wing, on the lip (last pic), but this will be rectified over summer.
But I had a look over it, I cannot see any other rust, so maybe it was just a problematic panel to start with? We'll never know.
Overall, as you can tell, I am stupidly happy, it drives amazing, it handles really well for a house on wheels, and it is pretty powerful and moves well for it's size. I have fallen in love with it, this thread may be a bit scarce for mods, but I will mainly be doing stuff to bring it back to nice OEM'ness like Kev is on his 8-series.
I will get some more pics soon
