I decided to go back to yet another BMW after selling my Mk2 Golf 16v back in January. I've had a couple of E30s, a couple of E46s and an ill-fated E28, so decided on something different. I started searching for a good condition E36 328i Sport, saw a few knackered ones and a few ok-ish ones. Then I came across this. It's a '98 in Steel Blue (Individual colour), it's got 138k with full history, M50 inlet manifold, alcantara/cloth M3 Vader interior, all new bushes and a whole load of other new bits. It also came with a Z3 steering rack which is waiting to go on.
Here's how it looked when I got it:
And again when I got it home:
There are a few things on it that needed to come off, such as...
Yes, they're stick-on covers
So I swapped the mirrors back to the original ones today and ditched the M badge off the back
And gave it a wash
Then this happened:
They came off in one piece, mostly. Just didn't want to risk the chance of them ever finding their way onto another car, so they had to die.
I've also swapped all the indicator bulbs to Silvertec ones, taken the tiny little fire extinguisher off the parcel shelf (yeah, very accessible..!) and fitted a Pipercross induction kit (from a Mk5 Golf GTI, went straight on and a bargain at £7, virtually brand new)
Other things on the to do list:
- Fit Z3 steering rack & gearshift
- Replace tyres with some much stickier ones of the right size
- Replace brake fluid with the DOT 5.1 I've got in the workshop
- Eibach / H&R anti roll bars
- Swap the cheap coilovers for some quality suspension
- Find some wider rear M Contours, or change the wheels completely
- A few other little general maintenance bits & pieces
That's pretty much it for now, here's a couple of pics of how it's sitting now (I really do need to get off my arse and take some decent photos of it )
