    Cheers

It's taken a while and I've spent more than I needed to (like 2 wings for the loft) but maybe a B12 kit and call it done me thinks. I bought cheap and it had clearly had chimps at it in it's history but unless turning spanners yourself you would never know

There's a new members thread or area as well that's worth a post, oh and the What did you do to your BMW today thread for awesome bodgery

Also if you get a "project" thread up - most cutters only drop in for diags or discount, all of which helps keep the forum going

Paint lets it down a bit but hey it was 6.5K in 2012, running gear, barring suspension, and everything else is pretty good. I've been playing with cars since I was 7 and just can't help not wanting to sub stuff out, though I would need to for paint and so far never had anyone do as good a job or even all the things they said they would so that's a bit fraught

Nearest I would get to SMG would be putting the clutch pedal on the left side and asking the wife to change gear, Sexy Manual Gearbox

@cunni - It just occurs to me to say check the crank shaft needle roller, I have had the same a couple of times and it was that

    Cost about 51p (35p magnet, 16p print)

However, the hint is you only save money if you haven't already bought the 18.60 one, so someone would have had to make one to print in advance. There are timing tools to print for everything but S54

    Wednesday 9th
Need to get the car aligned after all the suspension work.
Seeing as everyone says about fitting new track rod ends because they "seize" to the tie rod I thought I would slacken them.
Left side I wire brushed threads clean, WD40 and got the lock nut going freely eventually but could not turn the tie rod in the track rod end.

Right side the lock nut was again overtightened as usual but wire brushed WD and freed off OK and this one was relatively easy to turn in the track rod end.

    Friday 11th
Seeing as the major problem on the left was being able to put enough torque into the tie rod on the 13mm hex provided I improvised a tool.

    • Bought a 1.49 Mac 13mm socket from B&Q (would have preferred 6 point to 12 point)
    • Cut a slot in it vertically
    • Gripped in Self grip "mole grip" style cheap wrench
    • Welded to wrench
    • 1/2" drive section cut off so the two semi-circles to grip the nut or whatever are left welded to the jaws
    • Used to grip hex on the tie rod to crack off the track rod ends.

A cheap fix to avoid having to replace perfectly good track rods and tie rods that I could not get the torque to crack free with any other method.
The alternative would have been to cut the track rods to pieces to preserver tie rod to minimise spend / hassle.
